Most men and women looking to improve or restore an aspect of their appearance want to do so with experiencing as little pain as possible. Beauty does not necessarily equal pain. The Pro-Nox™ system allows our Rhode Island patients to get great results with injectables or other non-surgical treatments with little to no discomfort. The device involves a tubing held in your mouth, which delivers 50 percent oxygen and 50 percent nitrous oxide as you breathe in, treating your anxiety and pain within 30 seconds.
At the Centre for Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery, our medical spa offers Pro-Nox™ as a $25 add-on to any non-surgical procedure.
If you’re interested in a non-invasive cosmetic treatment such as dermal fillers, contact Dr. Andrea Doyle in East Greenwich at 401.336.3770 to schedule your consultation and see if Pro-Nox™ is the right pain relief option for you. We serve patients in surrounding areas of Rhode Island.
How Does Pro-Nox™ Work?
This gas delivery system was FDA-approved in 2013 and is widely used in hospitals including labor and delivery wards and ambulances because of its fast delivery and low risk of complications. Pro-Nox™ is used for adults and children and is patient-controlled, which in and of itself can ease anxiety because you’re in charge of your pain relief. Patients who have used Xanax, Valium, or other anti-anxieties for cosmetic treatments in the past, may find they don’t need those medications while using Pro-Nox™. By lowering your anxiety, Pro-Nox™ also lowers your pain threshold.
Using the Pro-Nox™ Nitrous Oxide System is simple, straightforward, and comparable to “laughing gas.” During your procedure, you will hold the tubing comfortably in your mouth. Breathe in at the first sign of anxiousness and/or discomfort, and the half and half mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide is released through the tubing, alleviating those symptoms within seconds. The effects of Pro-Nox™ are short-lasting, ending within fifteen minutes of the last inhale. You may breathe in as much or as little as you’d like. Many men, women, and children find this patient-controlled system comforting in a medical setting where you may be nervous about what’s to come.

The Benefits of Pro-Nox™
If you’re in overall good health, you’re likely a great candidate for Pro-Nox™. In the past, coping with the discomfort and anxiety that comes with cosmetic enhancements was just another part of the procedure, but with Pro-Nox™, you don’t have to go through unnecessary pain to reach your aesthetic goals. Additional benefits of Pro-Nox™ Nitrous Oxide System include:
- The device is easy to use and may decrease infection risks.
- Pro-Nox™ can replace or be combined with oral pain relievers, anti-histamines, anti-anxieties, numbing agents, and lidocaine nerve blocks.
- There are no complications associated with Pro-Nox™ because of the patient’s ability to control its use.
- The short-lived pain relief allows you to drive yourself home shortly after your non-surgical procedure.
There are a few, relatively rare adverse side effects of Pro-Nox™ such as headaches, nausea, or hallucinations, but these go away five minutes after discontinuation. Some patients may be sensitive to the combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide.
